In the mid 1920s, the PATHE label introduced a variegated red on black wax record line called the 'Chanticleer' in hopes of boosting record sales in the U.S. These are far and few between these days, so I guess the promotion didn't really work. Too bad, it's a cool record.

The red material looks similar to the material used to make their red PERFECT label records, but it seems to be a better quality material, equal to the regular black wax used. The red PERFECT label records had material quality issues, with the red wax being noisier, softer, and even crumbly on some records. The 'Chanticleer' records do not exhibit these issues, even 80-90 years later.
